Women’s Alliance – May 3rd

Women’s Alliance Luncheon and Program at the Turf Tavern, 12 noon: Come H*ll or High Water: New York Responds to Climate Change

Climate change has already affected New York’s natural resources, communities and residents. The State hopes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 percent by 2050, and has launched programs to prepare us for the consequences of climate change. Mark Lowery will describe anticipated future effects of climate change, what is needed to avoid catastrophic effects, and State programs to adapt to unavoidable effects of this change. Mark will also describe the state’s Climate Smart Communities program, and ways for you to be involved.

A 30-year veteran of NYSDEC, Mark Lowery is a climate policy analyst in DEC’s Office of Climate Change. He previously worked as a wildlife biologist, citizen participation specialist and chief of Public Outreach. He oversees the Climate Smart Communities program and serves on numerous state-level teams supporting local climate action and adaptation to climate change. Mark’s master’s degree is in environmental and forest biology from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry.

Lunch choices are Tilapia with Lemon and Basil, Grilled Chicken with Salsa or a vegetarian dish served promptly at noon. The cost is $15. Please indicate your selection with your reservation.
