Anti-Racism Team Purpose

To companion the congregation on our journey towards more wholeness, through acquiring the anti-racism skills needed to stop the harm, increase humility, and commit to the day-to-day work of addressing racism and other forms of oppression, as we co-create Beloved Community together.

Currently the Team hosts monthly discussions on books by BIPOC authors. You can find out the current and next books in Circuits, our weekly newsletter.

This Team is reviewing the UUA’s Widening the Circle report from the Commission on Institutional Change (COIC) to see what we can learn and apply at UU Schenectady. In the past we’ve hosted classes on White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Racism, by Robin DiAngelo; Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, by Ibram X. Kendi; and How To Be An Anti-Racist, also by Ibram X. Kendi.
