Religious Education This Week – January 22nd

Sunday, 1/26: The K/1 OWL Parent Orientation will take place today in the K/1 classroom beginning right at 10:30! The children will head to the K/1 classroom along with their parents and will then be walked to the nursery with designated UUSS adults who will stay with them in the nursery while they visit with some of the “little” kids. There will be three trained childcare providers present in addition to some extra helping adults, while parents and caregivers attend their orientation in the K/1 classroom. The children will be escorted back to the K/1 classroom once the orientation is complete.

In the months ahead, K/1 Children not registered for OWL will join the 2nd and 3rd grade Keepers of the Earth class across the street in Waters House. Be sure to have your child bring their coat, boots, and hat and mittens, as they’ll likely head outside for part of the class. Be sure to sign a permission slip giving consent for your child to go outside and possibly to Steinmetz Park, on the other side of the creek next to the church.

Everyone will else begin together in the Great Hall. Following the Story for All Ages, children in grades 2-7 and 10-12 will meet in the church entryway and be led across the street to their Waters House classrooms. Coming of Age youth will attend the service as their Religious Education for the day.

Sunday, 2/2: Everyone except the 8th and 9th grade Coming of Age Youth will begin together in the Great Hall. Following the Story for All Ages, K/1 Children will be led by their teachers to their classroom in the church hallway. Children in grades 2-7 and 10-12 will meet in the church entryway and be led across the street to their Waters House classrooms. Coming of Age youth will be hard at work preparing a wonderful spaghetti luncheon fundraiser for us all to enjoy following the service! Wear your favorite SUUperhero cape!

Save the Date–February 2nd: The Coming of Age Youth are hosting a spaghetti luncheon fundraiser for their upcoming Boston Heritage Trip in April. See separate announcement in today’s order of service for details.

The Nursery is available for children five and under during services. As always, all Children and Youth are welcome to attend worship services.

Director of Lifespan Religious Education Robin Ahearn will be out of the office through 1/30. Phone calls and email will not be checked during this time but will be checked upon her return, 1/31. If you have an urgent RE matter in the meantime, please contact Congregational Life Coordinator Kristin Cleveland at clc@uuschenectady.org or contact one of the co-ministers.
