News from the Green Sanctuary Team

ReTree Schenectady was awarded a grant from Capital Region PRISM for forest restoration in Central Park. The work includes a botanical survey of wooded areas, delineation of invasive species, and three volunteer Conservation Days to remove invasive burning bush and plant native species of plants, shrubs, and trees. This work is a collaboration with the City of Schenectady, Capital Region PRISM, Schoharie River Center, ECOS: The Environmental Clearinghouse, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Schenectady County, Schenectady County Soil & Water Conservation District and Compost Facility, and Upper Union NA to support biodiversity in the Central Park woods.

All are invited to join the Green Sanctuary team for the next Conservation Day in Central Park on Saturday July 18 from 9 to 12. We’ll remove invasive burning bush and plant native woodland wildflowers to support habitat restoration. Registration is required here: https://forms.gle/tKqAn9zqn8Xpof6n7. Dress for being in the woods and bring work gloves.
