The Unitarian Universalist Society of Schenectady is celebrating 125 years in Schenectady! And as part of our celebration, the three people pictured here represent something new and exciting for our congregation. They were nominated by UUSS members and will all be honored at our Love in Action CommUUnity Gala & Awards Dinner at Union College on Saturday, October 17.

Specifically, they will be recognized for the ways that their efforts have brought Compassion, Justice and Joy — values that are central to the UUSS Mission — to the wider Schenectady community.

Maura Furey (above left) will receive our new Love in Action Compassion Award for her work as a coordinator of StreetSoldiers – Schenectady.

Mark King (above center) will receive the Love in Action Justice Award for his leadership of the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy.

And Mona Golub (above right) will receive the Love in Action Joy Award for her years of curating and producing Music Haven.

You can learn more about these fabulous people and thank them all in person on October 17.

The Gala will be a joyous event and a church fundraiser too. We will gather at 6 pm on Saturday, October 17, at Union College Park Hall, 450 Nott St, Schenectady.

The evening will include:

• Hors d’oeuvres and a cocktail hour with cash bar,
• A yummy buffet dinner,
• Hearing from the three Love in Action Award winners,
• Highlights of the congregation’s 125 year history,
• Dancing to live music by the band Arox,
• Plus a silent auction and raffles.

Tickets to the Gala are $125 per person. Or you can purchase a table of 8 tickets to share with friends, family or co-workers for $900. You can also have a congratulatory message or ad printed in that evening’s program, or simply make a donation if you can’t attend on October 17. The DEADLINE to purchase tickets is Sunday, October 11.

Go to our Breeze order form for more details or to Buy Tickets.

To add to the fun, you can also buy raffle tickets to win this beautiful 77-inch-square, hand-made Quilt. It features a brightly colored heart and light gray background that will look great in any bedroom. Raffle tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. You need not be present to win.

More Gala Details

In addition to honoring our three award winners, we will celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the congregation on October 17. We suggest cocktail party attire — or whatever makes you feel fabulous!

We will gather in the ballroom at Union College’s “College Park Hall,” which is located at 450 Nott Street, directly across Nott Street from the Golub Corporation/Northeast Grocery headquarters. College Park Hall is wheelchair accessible, and parking is available in the college parking lot next to the building.

Dinner will include vegan and gluten-free options. Perfume or cologne is discouraged due to attendees with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

We hope you can join us and plan to have fun, enjoy dancing and connecting with friends and folks you haven’t met yet!
