Green Sanctuary: Climate Justice

The Paris Agreement One Year Later:  A year ago, our Climate Justice project was a petition (presented for signatures to both our congregation and the Greenmarket) to President Obama to sign on to the Paris Climate Agreement.  We were fortunate to have a president who signed the agreement, and went on to meet with the Chinese leader this summer to finalize the pledge.  Facing a new administration, our president-elect has called climate change a hoax, and is talking about backing out of the Paris agreement and weakening the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

We’re inviting you to join us in working hard to keep moving in the right direction on climate justice and other environmental action.  What can we do?  We’ll try to keep you notified of the advocacy opportunities from activist organizations we’re connected with, including Interfaith Impact, Interfaith Power and Light, 350.org, Union of Concerned Scientists, Green Education and Legal Fund, and others.  We can keep you in the loop about actions these groups need support on, such as petitions, letter-writing, phone calls, etc.

Mr. Trump has said he wants to be president of all the people.  We have to make him aware that the environmentalists in America are a constituency he has been leaving out.  He can’t be president of all the people if he doesn’t include us. Right?

You can help by participating in our support of the efforts of these environmental advocacy organizations.  If you want to be on our email list to help with this effort, please contact Paula Shaw at georgeandpaula@verizon.net or Crys Hamelink at CrysH@nycap.rr.com.
