“The 8th Step Coffeehouse: Music, Social Justice and Community” from Margie Rosenkranz.
Please join us for this Daytime Alliance event starting at 12 noon with an hour of food and conversation with a hot catered lunch from Gershon’s for $20 (payable by cash or check at the door). The presentation starts at 1:00 pm.
Margie Rosenkranz has been managing artistic director of The Eighth Step Coffeehouse since 1987, working with such artists as Janis Ian, Utah Philips, Tom Paxton, Ani DiFranco, cellist Janos Starker, Richie Havens, and Ireland’s Bard of Peace Tommy Sands. She will speak of the Eighth Step’s evolution from a basement coffeehouse started by Albany’s FOCUS churches in 1967, to a presenter of major folk/acoustic artists, and its residency at Proctors from 2007 to the present. Emphasis will be on social justice work, the Step’s relationship with the sloop Clearwater, Jackie Alpher and Pete Seeger. Woven throughout will be anecdotes and stories from Margie’s work, memorable artists, concerts and other music/arts events.
All are welcome but PLEASE RSVP by November 3, by contacting Nancy Bogdanowicz.
ALSO: Mark your calendar now for our annual, super-fun Holiday Stocking Stuffer event & lunch on Thursday, December 4, in the church dining room starting at 11 AM — to benefit local needy children and families served by the Sycamore Collaborative. (Details to follow, and the collection of toothbrushes, toothpaste, kids’ warm hats and mittens plus all types of small toys will start on Sunday, Nov. 9.)
