Daytime Alliance Luncheon Program: “Working toward a Literate Community” with Nancy Benz
November 7 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Did you know that Literacy Volunteers training and tutoring sessions are returning to Schenectady — thanks in part to grants from UU Schenectady? Come learn about how Literacy Volunteers has evolved over the years and what they are doing now when Nancy Benz speaks at the next Daytime Alliance luncheon at UUSS at noon on Thursday, November 7.
A UUSS member, Nancy is the executive director of Literacy Volunteers of Rensselaer County. Its students are immigrants and refugees, as well as US-born adults who are low-level readers. The agency has offices in Troy and Albany, and is currently using grants from the Alliance, the UU Schenectady Social Justice Fund, and the Schenectady Foundation to bring its services back into Schenectady County.
Attendees will enjoy a Mediterranean Lunch Buffet from Simone’s Kitchen in the UUSS Dining Room for $20, payable in cash or check at the door. Please be sure to RSVP to Allison Lee by Nov. 4 by clicking here. All genders are welcome.
