“A Golden Age: Schenectady in 1900” is topic for Nov. 5 Luncheon

November 5 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The Daytime Alliance is excited to invite everyone to a luncheon in the church dining room on Thursday, November 5, at 12 noon when Michael Diana, our favorite speaker from the Schenectady County Historical Society, will continue our exploration of what our city was like when UUSS began here 125 years ago.

During the 1890’s, hundreds of electrical engineers, managers, skilled laborers and their families followed Thomas Edison when he decided to move his factory from the Boston area to Schenectady. By 1900, Schenectady was growing very rapidly and saw the rise of two great factories. The General Electric and American Locomotive companies would transform not just our city but the world. Mr. Diana will discuss the years that created modern Schenectady as we know it.

Lunch will be $20, payable by cash or check at the door. All are welcome but PLEASE RSVP by Nov. 2 so we can have a headcount for the caterer. You can RSVP by contacting Patti Foley-Hess.

Looking ahead to December 3: At our 6th Annual Holiday Stocking Stuffer, can EBWA and the Daytime Alliance beat our previous record of filling 150 stockings for local kids who are in need??? We can if you help! Dec. 3 will be here before you know it, so all are invited to start collecting stocking stuffers for kids of all ages, like SMALL toys, books, stuffed animals & craft items. Warm hats, mittens, toothbrushes & toothpaste are especially needed, according to the Sycamore Collaborative. Details to follow.
