Co-Ministers’ Colloquy – Oct. 21st

On Sunday, Wendy invited those gathered for worship to raise their hands if they had participated in one of the No Kings protests the day before. So many hands went up! More than 3/4 of us, it seems, were out on the streets… some at protests or rallies or vigils or sidewalk gatherings with thousands of people, others with hundreds, and some, creatively, having their own local gathering, and some doing the ever important work of rest or healing or personal celebration or relationship tending. There are lots of ways to show up!

Did Saturday’s events help bend the arc of the moral universe? We don’t know exactly, but any time we can gather with others who value justice and democracy is certainly providing some counterbalance to the movement of evil that is trying to take us on a time warp backwards, to obliterate the arc of the moral universe.

What we can affirm is that the protests were peaceful, patriotic, joyful, connective, and hopefully built more energy for the building of coalitions that are willing to keep pulling on that arc to bend evermore. And those coalitions need folks with all kinds of gifts. Deepa Iyer’s work on Ecosystems shows us that it isn’t just frontline protesting-we need weavers and storytellers and artists and so many gifts to move us closer to the world we know is possible.

Acting now and for the long haul, may Love guide our way.
