As the church year begins to conclude, we are reflecting on what has transpired both in and beyond the congregation. We are noticing just how weary so many people are and are wondering how we might create a global sabbath or a ‘call in well’ day for the whole world to just pause and try to catch our breath.
We know this isn’t possible because someone would need to give birth and so we’d need the maternity ward available and someone would have forgotten to pick up needed medicine or holistic herbs and someone would need to be at the pharmacy or farm. And we know that those who are caring for others continue to be needed, even on days off from other commitments.
AND…we hope you will carve out a little time here and there or maybe even a whole week or two or more of vacation time, to rest, to tend to your spirit, to grieve what has been lost, to get excited for what dreams may yet inspire us into September and the unfolding of a new church year.
We have several weeks of study leave and vacation coming to us that we did not take during the worst of the pandemic and our bodies and minds, hearts and spirits are deeply weary. So, in July and August, we will be taking some time for reflection and spiritual practice, time to rest and recharge, before planning commences for the new year.
So that we may do that, we need some help on Sundays throughout the summer. We need folks to sign up for greeting, welcoming table, ushering, security, and also worship. We know that the Worship Team could use a rest, too, so we are not shouldering them with the responsibility to cover all the Sundays. They are willing to assist others and to lead a few. We are so grateful to the folks who have already said, “yes!”
So, can you help them/us out?
The order of service will be simplified and UUism honors both the clergy and the lay wisdom that can be shared from the pulpit.
If you have an idea for worship and have some flexible availability this summer, please let us know right now. Send us the topic and the Sundays you are potentially available.
And, we hope to see you this Sunday, for the flower ceremony, for Bridging, and for a picnic following the service.
