Co-Ministers’ Colloquy – January 7th

Happy Gregorian New Year!
Last summer we sat together and chose monthly themes to give some shared shape to aspects of congregational life, such as worship, adult faith development, chalice lightings for meetings, etc. We have heard from some of you that the themes have allowed for a more expanded exploration of the chosen topics which have included covenant; connection, commitment, and community; hope; and mystery and wonder.
As we begin this new calendar year and reach the mid-point of this fiscal year, our January theme is 2020 Visions of Justice. On Sunday evening over 800 people gathered for an interfaith vigil of solidarity, hosted by Schenectady Clergy Against Hate and the Jewish Federation of Northeastern New York. We heard from political, community, and religious leaders, and there was a strong sense of yearning for radical change… and an acknowledgement that such a change must begin with each of us.
So, dear people, what are your visions of justice? What will your part be in making those visions become a reality? What needs to change in your heart in order to more boldly live our 7 principles and make justice more present? We hope that we see you at UUSS this month… and that you dare to ask one another these questions, share your own thoughts, and be willing to be inspired and changed by the conversations you have.
There is so much that is broken in the world. Let us bring our minds and open to learning from those most impacted by injustice. Let us bring our own unique blend of gifts and skills to end the harm that is happening. Let us bring our hearts to lend to the healing, that we truly and actively resist oppression, and grow ever more powerfully into love and the world that we know is possible.
