Co-ministers’ Colloquy – Oct. 13th

After the Nobel-Prize winning Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda died in 1973, a notebook of several hundred questions was found on his desk, and published as The Book of Questions. They are whimsical and/or thought provoking, including:

Is 4 the same 4 for everybody?

Are all sevens equal?

What color is the scent

of the blue weeping of violets?

Why doesn’t Thursday talk itself

into coming after Friday?

If I have died and don’t know it

of whom do I ask the time?

This month, as we explore Living the Questions, we invite you to bring a question to share at the Community Connection table at the back of the Great Hall. Or, stop by and have some fun with the questions that others bring.

In some religions, adherents are taught what to believe, how to pray, what to tithe, and other very specific instructions. In Unitarian Universalism, we are asked to do our religious work. That is, to engage with the questions of faith, belief, and meaning; come to some conclusions; and then see how they hold up when we are in community. We are invited to try a variety of spiritual practices to see which one(s) nurture our human selves into being the best version of us we can be. We have the responsibility to choose how we will organize, govern, minister, and serve one another and the wider community. And, to be accountable to Unitarian Universalism, our shared values, bylaws, policies, practices, and our covenants.

What are the questions you wrestle with? What questions are thought and feeling provoking on your free and responsible search for truth and meaning?

Do others feel the music the same way?

What great songs will you dance to at the Gala?

How many UUs does it take to widen the circle of compassion, justice, and joy?

Sunday is still likely to come after Saturday so we hope to see you at the Gala, at worship, or both this weekend!

Wherever you go, however your journey unfolds, we hope that you find space for curiosity and questions that open your heart, enliven your mind, and help you connect with others through your involvement with UUSS.

In faith,
Rev. Lynn & Rev. Wendy
