Daytime Alliance October program: Who We Were, Who We Are & Why It Matters
History of the Women’s Alliance (now Daytime Alliance) is topic of October 1 Luncheon: Who We Were, Who We Are & Why It Matters
Did you know that what we now call the Daytime Alliance is as old as our congregation itself? Yes, both were started in March 1901, so both are celebrating their 125th Anniversary this year. And here’s an interesting question: would either group have endured for so long without the other?
In March 1901, Carrie Rohrer (pictured, with her daughter) led the effort to start a “Schenectady Unitarian Women’s Alliance,” specifically “to help promote the interests of the Unitarian Society.” For a number of years, under Carrie’s leadership, the Alliance women’s initiatives were a major source of income for the struggling congregation.
Now, the Daytime Alliance welcomes people of all genders. So all are invited to hear more about our history, including stories from some of our most senior members. Please join us for a buffet lunch at 12 noon on Thursday, October 1, in the church dining room. Lunch, catered by Simone’s, will be $20, and will feature the opportunity to create your own Mezza Bowl from a number of meat & vegetarian options. The presentation will begin at 1 pm.
All are welcome but please RSVP!! by emailing Patti Foley-Hess by Sept. 27 so we can have a head count. For those who wish to contribute, 2026-27 Alliance dues of $20 can also be paid at this meeting.
