Beyond the Campfire: How the Adirondacks Wilderness Lured More Than Just Sportsmen

March 26 @ 12:00 pm - 2:30 pm

A co-hosted event of the Evening Branch of the Women’s Alliance and the Daytime Alliance

Speaker: Laura Baker, NYS Outdoor Guide and owner of ADK Heartscape

Once again, EBWA will join with the Daytime Alliance for lunch and a program in the church dining room.  Our speaker, Laura Baker, is a fourth-generation Adirondacker and avid hiker who combines her love for nature with her passion for educating others through interpretive guiding.  She will tell us about women in the 19th century who embraced the spirit of the Adirondacks and fully engaged in all the region had to offer, helping to redefine wilderness adventure for generations to come.  She will also share how the life stories of a few of these women impacted her decision to follow in their “boot tracks” and how the definition of guiding has expanded.  After the presentation and questions, there will be time for networking.

All are welcome to join us for this intriguing program.

Lunch at noon is $20 ($15 for EBWA sponsors), payable in cash or check at the door. Please RSVP so we have a head count for the meal, by emailing Gabrielle Reals at ellegr3@gmail.com by noon on March 24 (and specify if you’d like a gluten free meal).

Looking ahead:  On April 23 EBWA will return to our usual meeting time, 7-9pm, in person in the UUSS dining room.  Our program will be “Ukrainian Pysanky Eggs: A Visual Prayer” with Susan Malinchak Schmitt.
