Daytime Alliance Grants

Bike to church, enjoy the outdoors, and help save the planet! In June, the UUSS Daytime Alliance gave grants of $1,500 each to the church and two local nonprofits. The grant to UUSS is earmarked for the purchase and installation of a bicycle rack, as suggested by the co-ministers and the Green Sanctuary team.

In May, members of the Daytime Alliance voted to approve this donation plus $1,500 grants to Things of My Very Own, which works with local children and youth who are victims of domestic violence or other abuse https://thingsofmyveryown.org/ and to RISSE (Refugee and Immigrant Support Services), which provides services to refugees & immigrants of all ages as they build new lives in the Capital Region. https://www.risse-albany.org/

As has happened for more than 20 years, the Daytime Alliance uses income from a bequest by former UUSS member Alice Allen to make annual grants to the church and/or local nonprofits. “This year it was a pleasure to visit these groups and give them the checks in person,” says Alliance co-chair Crys Hamelink. “I also think our former member Alice Allen would enjoy knowing that her UU values live on this way through her bequest.”

The Daytime Alliance is open to all genders and holds lunches and talks at noon from September through May, typically on the first Thursday of the month. MARK YOUR CALENDAR! Lunches and topics this fall will include:

Clowns on Rounds and Humor Therapy with Dr. Nose-A-Lot on September 11, Ghost Stories of Schenectady with Michael Diana of the Schenectady Co. Historical Society on October 2, The 8th Step Coffeehouse: Past, Present & Future on Nov. 6, and The annual Stocking Stuffer event on December 4.
