The governor signed the Climate Superfund Act! Within a week she established congestion pricing in central NYC to cut down significantly on carbon emissions and encourage use of public transportation. She did these things at some risk to her re election chances, so it wouldn’t hurt to call and thank her for these actions. Her public telephone number is (518)474-8390. Two or 3 sentences would be plenty. First give your name, the city you live in and your zip code, then the brief thank you. And thank you to all at UUSS who encouraged the governor to sign the bill!
Next steps will include advocating for the NY HEAT ACT, which aims to cut down on natural gas use, increase electrical use and subsidize energy bills for low income people. More on that later, but you can google NY HEAT ACT and find many articles about it. On the page that comes up, you will find the Senate and Assembly versions of the bill, and also a very good NY Times article (scroll way down).
