EBWA September program: My Story About Two Revolutions in Iran

September 26 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

“My Story About Two Revolutions in Iran”—September 26, 7-9pm, in the church dining room

Speaker: Elahe Gol Pari, Multimedia Cross-Cultural Documentarian

Elahe Gol Pari is a native of Iran and a U.S. citizen the Capital Region.  She will share her experiences and observations from two significant revolutions in Iran. One took place during her childhood in 1979, and the other occurred during the uprising for “Women, Life, Freedom,” which began in September 2022 and developed into a national revolution for regime change. (Elahe was in Iran when this revolution began.) Elahe will delve into what led her to become an advocate for this new revolutionary movement and the valuable lessons she has learned throughout this process, both from Americans and from the people in her home country. She will also discuss the importance of caring about these issues. — All who identify as women are invited to join us to get current information on what is happening in Iran as women fight to gain freedom over their minds, their bodies, their education, and futures and to gain a new perspective on the history and events that led to this latest uprising.

We will serve coffee, tea, and dessert before the program.  We urge you to arrive by 6:45 pm (or 6:30, if you’d like to have more time to socialize).  Use the back door to the church, off the parking lot.  We want everyone to have time to greet each other and settle in before Elahe’s talk begins shortly after 7 pm.  Following the presentation, there will be time for questions. Networking (when each person may share something of interest with the group) will begin around 8:15, and the meeting will end no later than 9 pm.

While reservations are not required, in order to have some idea of how many people to expect, it would be helpful if you would email Gabrielle Reals at ellegr3@gmail.com by Tuesday, September 24, to let her know you are coming.  (If you forget to do this, we urge you to come anyway!)  As a reminder, in order for us to be able to pay our speakers an honorarium, we need your help.  Please consider subscribing by bringing a $30 check made out to EBWA to the upcoming meeting (or contacting Carol Furman at cfurm13@gmail.com to learn where to send your check).  Those who have subscribed may attend the in-person meetings for free.  All others will be asked to contribute $5 toward our costs, at the door.

Looking ahead: Our October 24th program will feature Rayn Boncie, owner of Things of My Very Own, Inc.  She will speak about the work this non-profit organization does in providing crisis intervention services to children impacted by abuse and/or neglect.
