Children in Kindergarten through 6 th grade will start in the Great Hall for the first part of the service. Afterwards, these children will meet in the K-3 rd grade classroom next to the dining room for a Faithful Funday session. Faithful Fundays are Sunday morning programming in which multi-age activities that focus on faith in action or creating community. This Sunday Leah Purcell and the president of the society, Bridget Almas, we’ll lead the children in talking in child-friendly ways about UU Schenectady’s Open Questions.
Young people in 7th -12th grade are invited to attend the service.
The UUSS Nursery: Childcare for children 5 and under is available from 10-12.
We are staffing for current needs of the RE Program – And for Growth!
I am looking for one or two volunteers to join the team working with our 7th/8th graders. The plan is to start with a getting-to-know-you session. I have a curriculum in mind called “You the Creator”; it’s an activity based program of creative empowerment; role plays, continuums, drawing, and sculpting. The theme of spirituality touches every session. The sessions will probably start at 10:30. You don’t have to be a spiritual master to teach this curriculum; just the willingness to connect with 7th and 8th graders as a Unitarian Universalist, and the ability to commit to 1 or 2 Sunday mornings a month. I’ll meet with this teaching team – perhaps via zoom- before we start the sessions. If you’re the parent or caretaker of a younger child, you might enjoy working with the older group, but we’ll have to make arrangements for the Sundays when your child(dren) start Sunday in the service at 10:30. Maybe they can buddy up with another family.
Substitutes are needed for our current programs: nursery; Kindergarten – 3rd grade; and 4th-6 grade. Things come up and our volunteers occasionally need someone to step in on a Sunday morning. Substitutes work with an experienced member of the teaching team as a helper. Whether you’re curious about the curriculum, or you’re looking for an occasional and fun role on Sunday mornings, being a substitute is an easy way to support our RE program.
We still have a paid nursery staff position available. If you know someone 18 or older who is fabulous with children and might welcome sharing some Sunday mornings with wonderful little ones, please let me know.
Let me know if you’d like to talk more about joining in the RE fun.
In joyful service,
Leah Purcell
