Dear UUSS,
This week we will be attending (online) the national UU Ministers Association (UUMA) Annual Meeting on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Wendy is completing a term as the UUMA Board Secretary. Lynn will be serving as a member of the Right Relations Team. The UUMA Board and the Executive Leadership Staff have been working to clarify and update the Mission and Vision of the UUMA by grappling with why we exist and how we will do our work. The Executive determines what will be done.
There is a lot of confusion about the definition of mission, vision, and purpose and the terms get used to mean different things sometimes and in different types of organizations. It is good to review and revise course periodically, and take stock of what’s working, what’s being resisted, what’s not working, what is the Spirit of Life calling forth from us, and what is needed in Unitarian Universalism and the wider community. It will be important for UUSS to ask some of these same questions as we think about and engage in preparations for re-opening in-person worship in the fall. Who are we called to be now? What is the Spirit of Life and Love calling forth from UUSS?
May we endeavor to grapple with the questions of why UUSS exists, how we will do our work together guided by which values, and what shared ministry will we prioritize doing together as a congregation for 2021-22.
Open to the unfolding path,
Rev. Wendy and Rev. Lynn
