Dear UU Schenectady~
Today we offer five reasons to consider attending this year’s General Assembly of our Unitarian Universalist Association of congregations in Providence, Rhode Island, June 24th-28th.
- To experience our denomination through a different size and shape. At General Assembly (GA) we worship and meet with thousands, rather than dozens or hundreds of other UUs. We can be inspired and challenged in new ways. We meet new people, or reconnect with those we know who live across the continent, or who are Unitarians and/or Universalists in the Philippines, Transylvania, Uganda, India, Argentina, England, and more!
- If you are a member of UUSS, you could represent the congregation as a delegate, participating in the business meetings, and voting on issues that help shape our faith. This year’s budget includes funds to cover half of registration for our delegates. Early Bird registration ends March 15th. If you are interested in serving as a delegate, please fill out an application, available on Sunday or on our website. All are welcome to attend General Assembly. Delegates need to be members of a congregation. All youth who attend participate in the Youth Caucus, which is a powerful voice in the Assembly. It is also possible to serve as a delegate and attend online, rather than in person.
- To attend this year’s Ware Lecture, presented by Naomi Klein, the inaugural Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair in Media, Culture and Feminist Studies at Rutgers University, and an award-winning journalist, syndicated columnist and international and New York Times bestselling author of, On Fire: The (Burning) Case for a Green New Deal (2019), No Is Not Enough: Resisting the New Shock Politics and Winning the World We Need (2017), This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. The Climate (2014). The Ware Lecture, which happens on Saturday evening, is often a highlight!
- To choose from the hundreds of workshops to learn more about your areas of interest, and bring back tools, ideas, and new perspectives.
- To share time with others from UUSS. While you can attend GA and spend time on your own, there are also lots of opportunities to get to know one another, whether it is by choosing to attend the same workshops, or sharing a meal and reflecting on the youth bridging service, a social justice event, or exploring Providence together.
There are lots of reasons to register and go to GA. You can attend one day, or all five. There are programs for all ages. Learn more at https://www.uua.org/ga. Please let us know if you plan to attend.
With anticipation, and in faith~ Rev. Lynn & Rev. Wendy
