Women’s Alliance – October 4th

Luncheon and Program – noon at the Turn Inn: Join us for our first luncheon and program of the Fall. The Program will include discussion and readings from the book Before They Were Our Mothers: Voices of Women Born Before Rosie Started Riveting, presented by the editor Pat Nugent and some of the local authors of these real-life stories of their mothers and grandmothers.

This book offers personal glimpses of events from the late 1800’s to the mid 1900’s as written by current day descendants. Presenters will include our own Alliance member Crys Hamelink, and three other writers. Universal themes weave delicate, relatable threads through our foremothers’ lives: well-meaning parents making questionable decisions; sexual harassment; bias against immigrants, and the crippling effects of poverty, prejudice, and discrimination. Themes still prevalent in our lives today. Resilience and resistance are woven through the stories of these women. May these stories inspire you to tell your own family stories.

Editor Pat Nugent is currently working on her third book Healing with Dolly Lama: Finding God in Dog. For 30 years she has taught courses in creative nonfiction, journaling, and spirituality, and is a blogger for Ms Magazine and Vox Populi. Autographed copies of the book will be available for sale for $10
