Soup Kitchen Fundraiser Lunch – January 26, 2020

On Sunday, January 26, the Soup Kitchen Volunteers will offer a lunch for our congregation immediately following the service. The lunch is a fundraiser for our continuing effort to feed the hungry in our community. We will serve the tasty chili soup that is our staple at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen, along with salad, cornbread and cookies. There will be gluten free and vegetarian alternatives.

This year we have seen a steady stream of people experiencing food insecurity in Schenectady from 100-150 guests per month, but during cold weather the number is likely to rise. Beginning in April, seven per cent of food stamp recipients will be at risk of losing their SNAP or food stamp benefits if they can’t meet onerous work requirements.

Last year the volunteers from our congregation put on ten luncheons at the Salvation Army Soup kitchen. Because of financial challenges the soup kitchen volunteers face the possibility of fewer service dates next year.

This church luncheon is an opportunity to feed others while feeding your family. Please help us continue this ministry to the hungry in our community by joining us for lunch on January 26. Knowing that each meal we serve costs slightly over $1.00 to prepare, your donations are greatly appreciated and wisely spent.

We thank you for all your verbal, monetary and spiritual support in our efforts.
