January Theme: Change & (R)evolutions

January is often a time when we push the reset button. Reflecting on our lives, we can make amends, make changes, and begin again in love. Change is not always easy and institutional change can be even more difficult as different folks have their own ‘stuff’ that can get in the way of change that helps an organization grow and evolve. John F. Kennedy once said, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” We are on the precipice of much needed change and those who are used to being in the center of having power are blocking that change because of their fear and hunger for power. But Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, jr said in his speech about Vietnam, “A true revolution of values will soon cause us to question the fairness and justice of many of our past and present policies.” As a living tradition, we UUs must also be willing to change and evolve to make a more just congregation, community, and nation.
