DESCRIPTION:Join us online on Monday\, Dec. 29th from 6 – 7 for a discussion of this month’s book by a BIPOC (Black\, Indigenous\, or other Person of Color) author. \nDuring the last month of the year\, we read poetry – to reflect\, as one year ends and another one begins\, in stanzas that we have not created ourselves. Our choice for this December – Words Under the Words: Selected Poems by Naomi Shihab Nye\, (Palestinian American) 1994 \nFrom Nye’s poem\, “The Shopper” \nWe must bless ourselves with peaches.\nPray to the eggplant\, silent among her sisters\,\nthat the seeds will not be bitter on the tongue.\nConfess our fears to the flesh of the tomato:\nwe too go forward only halfway ripened\ndreaming of the deeper red. \nIf you have suggestions for novels\, historical fiction\, memoirs\, or books of poetry by BIPOC authors\, please send them along to info at uuschenectady dot org.
