SUMMARY:Women of the Saratoga Campaign (EBWA's January program)
DESCRIPTION:The Evening Branch of Women’s Alliance (EBWA) January program will be Women of the Saratoga Campaign\, presented by Anne Clothier\, Assistant to the Saratoga County Historian. \nMany know the story of British General John Burgoyne’s Surrender to the Americans after the Battles of Saratoga in 1777\, commonly referred to as the Turning Point of the American Revolution\, but what about the women who were also involved in this crucial campaign? This month’s EBWA program focuses on lesser known stories of women on both sides of the conflict and shares their perspectives on ways their lives were forever changed by these events. \nOur speaker Anne Clothier grew up immersed in history on her family’s 200-year-old farm in northern Saratoga County. She earned her B.S. degree in History from SUNY-Oneonta\, and while attending the Cooperstown Graduate Program in Museum Studies\, she worked on projects at the Farmers’ Museum\, Fenimore Art Museum\, and NYS Historical Association. She served as Director of Education at the Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa for over a decade before becoming Assistant to the Saratoga County Historian in 2024. All are invited to join us for what promises to be a fascinating program of the Evening Branch of the Women’s Alliance (EBWA). \nWhile we plan to resume in-person meetings in March\, we will meet on Zoom in January and February. If you already receive EBWA announcements from Judy Clough\, or Daytime Alliance announcements from Christy Multer\, you will automatically be sent the Zoom invitation and do not need to request one. If you do not usually get these email announcements\, please email Judy Clough by Tuesday\, January 27 to receive an invitation to join the Zoom program. \nSign into the meeting between 6:50 and 7:00pm. After welcoming remarks\, the speaker will be introduced. Following the presentation\, there will be time for questions. Networking (when each attendee may share something of interest with the group) will begin around 8:15\, and the meeting will end no later than 9pm. \nLooking ahead: On Feb. 26 our program\, “The NYS Abortion Landscape Since the Dobbs Decision\,” will be presented by Cassandra Klewicki\, Reproductive Justice Advocate. \nTo see the full calendar of EBWA programs for 2025-2026\, click here.

SUMMARY:Help Stuff Stockings on Dec. 4th
DESCRIPTION:Last December\, UUSS members and friends packed 93 Holiday Stockings for children in Schenectady. This December\, the need is so much greater. We can’t fix grocery prices or the national SNAP mess\, but we UU’s can help make Christmas and Hanukkah a little happier for local families in need. Can we collect enough small toys\, toiletries\, kids hats and mittens to fill at least 125 stockings this year??? Filling 125 stockings means collecting at least 625 items! \nThe Daytime Alliance and EBWA are co-sponsoring this 5th annual Holiday Stocking Stuffer event. The process is easy. We provide the stockings; you provide the fillers. \nOn the next two Sundays (November 23\, and 30)\, please bring small items for children ages 3 – 12 to church and drop your donated items into the boxes at the back of the Great Hall. The Sycamore Collaborative Emergency Food Pantry has especially asked us to provide toothpaste\, toothbrushes\, children’s winter hats & mittens. Small stuffed animals\, toys\, books\, stickers & art/craft supplies are needed too. \nAlso\, all are welcome to join in the fun of filling the stockings at UUSS on Thursday\, Dec. 4. Starting at 11 AM\, we will stuff the stockings\, then enjoy a catered lunch together at 12 noon\, and at 1 pm\, hear about local food needs with a presentation by Sarah McGaughnen from the Regional Food Bank. \nLunch on December 4 will be $20\, payable with cash or check at the door. To RSVP for lunch\, please contact Nancy Bogdanowicz.

SUMMARY:EBWA Program for November: Communication for Connection
DESCRIPTION:“Communication for Connection”—November 20\, 6:30-9pm\, in the church dining room\nSpeaker: Wendy Miller\, Mediator and conflict coach \nLong-time EBWA member Wendy Miller will speak to us about Non-Violent Communication\, the brainchild of Marshall B. Rosenberg. According to Wendy\, “Rosenberg was curious about what fuels conflict and how it might be addressed differently.  The approach he developed is quite simple in format and yet has been shown to be incredibly effective in resolving the most complicated conflicts interpersonally and in war-torn countries.  It requires observation without judgment\, an understanding of our own feelings and needs\, and an intention to be authentic and compassionate.” — All who identify as women are invited to come to EBWA (the Evening Branch of the Women’s Alliance) to learn how to speak so that you are heard and how to listen so that others may have that same experience. \nWe will serve coffee\, tea\, and dessert before the program.  We urge you to arrive by 6:30 pm for time to socialize before the program begins at 7 pm. Following the presentation\, there will be time for questions. Networking (when each person may share something of interest with the group) will begin around 8:15\, and the meeting will end no later than 9 pm. \nWhile reservations are not required\, in order to have some idea of how many people to expect\, it would be helpful if you would email Gabrielle Reals at ellegr3@gmail.com  by Tuesday\, November 18\, to let her know you are coming.  (If you forget to do this\, we urge you to come anyway!)  As a reminder\, in order for us to be able to pay our speakers an honorarium\, we need your help.  Please consider subscribing by bringing a $30 check made out to EBWA to the upcoming meeting (or contact Carol Furman at cfurm13@gmail.com to learn where to send\nyour check).  Those who have subscribed may attend the in-person meetings for free.  All others will be asked to contribute $5 toward our costs\, at the door. \nTo see the full calendar of EBWA programs for 2025-2026\, click here. (Note that the January & February EBWA Programs will be online only.) \nLooking ahead: On December 4th we will join with the Daytime Alliance\, 11:45-2:00 pm for their Holiday Stocking Stuffer event and luncheon\, with a speaker from the Regional Food Bank. Bring small items for children ages 3-12\, such as toothpaste\, toothbrushes\, children’s winter hats and mittens\, small stuffed animals\, toys books\, stickers\, and art/craft supplies to the Nov. 20 EBWA meeting\, or drop them off at the church after checking in with Lillian at info@uuschenectady.org to be sure she will be there to open the door.
