Co-Ministers’ Colloquy – Nov. 9th

Dear UUSS~
What is time? Chronos time and Kairos time. Time warps. Time machines. Hammer time. Moving our clocks back an hour this past weekend back to ‘standard’ time is a curious ritual; just as it is in the spring when we move them ahead an hour.
We humans crave light, just as many plants do. And we also need the dark, the time to rest, to rejuvenate, to prepare for the next coming of the spring. So, if you have kids or pets or you yourself are struggling with this time change, give yourself permission to take a nap, to go to bed early, to sleep in on your next day off. We are still in a global pandemic, even with the awesome news that 5-11 year olds can get vaccinated (and we hope you will!!!!! yay for you who have waited your turn!!!!!) It’s ok to listen to your body and rest.
So many of us are exhausted. We’re tired of all the decision-making and risk-assessments. We’re tired of all the losses and the changes and the fear. We’re tired of being apart. We’re tired of the conflicting science and recommendations and the court of public opinion and the fear-mongering and the messy process of re-opening as some focus on the individual as we practice in this faith, the importance of the collective and our interdependence.
Some of us are making choices to be in larger spaces with other people while some of us are moving more cautiously. Wherever you are on your journey, let us turn towards one another with compassion, with care, with patience. We will continue to work towards that great day we can be together in the Great Hall. That day is coming and there will be lots of experimenting along the way.
We are sending prayers to Glasgow as leaders and executives gather. May they love the Earth more than they love money and may their decisions be bold, far-reaching, and demonstrate care for those who are most impacted by climate change.
In faith,
Rev. Wendy and Rev. Lynn
