Co-Ministers’ Colloquy – January 15th

Dear ones~

January’s worship theme is on spiritual practices. This past Sunday, the service included a Universalist Meditation, written by Rev. Dr. Rebecca Parker. We learned it during our first week of seminary at Starr King School for the Ministry. We were encouraged to say it every day, on our own, and include the names of each of our entering classmates. It was an important part of our individual and shared spiritual practice.

This meditation lives on in us. In 2015, when we were invited to lead the opening worship of General Assembly along with our friend, and classmate, Rev. Dr. Leon Dunkley, we chose to include a sung version of this prayer. At the beginning of the church year, the two of us say this prayer together and then insert the names of people in this congregation. Several of you have asked for the words. As Dr. Parker has made it public, we share them here with you:

There is a love holding me.
There is a love holding all that I love.
There is a love, holding all.
I rest in this love.
There is a love holding us.
There is a love holding all that we love.
There is a love holding all.
We rest in this love.
(Then you can include anyone or any place _______________, in this love.)

May you find meaning in this, or any other practice(s) that you choose.
