May 29th – Social Action Sunday

The Mooncatcher Project: The Mooncatcher Project is based on a vision of a world in which education is a basic human right and all girls participate fully in their communities. Ugandan girls cannot attend school when they are bleeding so they drop out of school after they reach this stage of puberty. The Mooncatcher Project keeps girls in school by giving Ugandan girls in the Wakiso area washable menstrual pads. Every $5.00 buys one menstrual kit for a Ugandan girl.

In April, Ellie von Wellsheim and two other Mooncatcher participants extended the Project further by establishing a sewing collective among women in one town in Uganda that pays the women to make reusable pads for 2000 girls in 14 schools in the Wakiso area. They also held a Menstrual Management and Reproductive Health class for the girls so that they could understand and track their cycles, making it possible to come to school prepared and stay in school for the entire month without missing any classes.
Every $5.00 will help change the life of a girl, a woman, and the lives of their families and their communities.
