Dining for Dollars Helps Again
On Tuesday, December 11, 2012 the First Unitarian Society (FUSS) is sponsoring the sixth annual Dining for Dollars fundraiser. This year, we will continue our support of the Gulf Coast residents still suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina and also our neighbors in Schoharie County whose homes were inundated during Tropical Storm Irene. We also will support New York City residents suffering the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
Katrina and Irene survivors will fall further from our thoughts this year as many people have turned their concern to people dealing with Hurricane Sandy. There are people everywhere that need help, and it’s hard not to feel disaster fatigue from it all, but so often we forget victims who are still suffering from distant or past catastrophes. Louisiana and Schoharie County still need our aid as do Hurricane Sandy survivors
All materials and labor for Dining For Dollars has been are donated. Your donations will benefit storm survivors – through the New Orleans Covenant House for run away youth, the Slidell Elementary Schools’ “At Risk” Program, both in Louisiana, the Schoharie Recovery Volunteer program here in New York State and a non-profit yet to be determined, working to help victims of Hurricane Sandy. A portion of the proceeds will also support the First Unitarian Society of Schenectady [FUSS] that provides many services to make this project successful.
Here’s how it works:
On Tuesday December 11, 2012 we’ll make dinner for you and deliver it to your house between 5 and 6 p.m. Turn your porch light on and leave out a cooler or tell us about a safe place to put your food, and we’ll leave your order for you. You don’t have to dress up or go out. It all happens right in your house. You can put on your PJ’s and watch TV or you can invite friends and have a party.
If you live within area codes 12301, 12302, 12303, 12304, 12305, 12306, 12308, 12309, 12325, 12148 or [in Saratoga] 12866 we’ll bring your meal[s] right to your home. If you live further away you can pick up your food at FUSS [the First Unitarian Society of Schenectady at 1221 Wendell Ave.] between 5 and 6 p.m. where we’ll be preparing the food, or we’ll leave it at a prearranged location.
The menu will be:
A Home baked Sweet
Along with your meal you’ll receive a pre-addressed envelope. Put whatever donation you want into it and mail it back. ALL proceeds will go to our non-profit groups. ALL our food and supplies have been donated, so your money won’t be used for any overhead.
Meal Order Form:
The deadline for orders was 5pm Sunday December 9th, so we are no longer accepting orders for this year. Please come back next year and get your order in early!
