EBWA: This Region So Delightful to Ladies

June 15th – “This Region So Delightful to Ladies” – Hallie Bond, historian, author of several books and speaker on all things Adirondack, will speak to EBWA at the Kelly Adirondack Center, on June 15.  From Anna Constable, who went camping on Raquette Lake in 1850, to Anne LaBastille, who built a cabin on a remote pond in 1964, women have come to the Adirondacks to experience life close to nature. Among the woods and waters they were able to stretch–or even abandon–assumptions of woman’s place and woman’s nature.  Hallie will discuss this century of women’s history in a mid-century Bloomer Costume.

EBWA is the guest of Union College at the Kelly Adirondack Center, 897 St. David’s Lane, Niskayuna.  We are invited to arrive as early in the afternoon as we wish so we may explore the grounds and nature walk which begins behind the building.  We are especially invited to tour the Center and enjoy the current exhibit of maps of the Adirondacks—dating from 1556 and including a 10’x12’ relief map from 1945.  A Kelly Center guide will be on hand to answer questions.

Reservations for vegetarian dinner served at 6pm can be made by emailing ellegr3@gmail.com by Monday, June 12 or by calling 382-5685 by Tuesday, June 13 at 8pm.  If you plan to attend only the program, please arrive by 7pm.  Please note the earlier times.  Parking is limited at the Center; carpooling is encouraged.
