EBWA Program: October 27

Expanding Options at the End of Life: Changing the Law to Allow for Medical Aid in Dying in New York State
Join Evening Branch of the Women’s Alliance (EBWA) on October 27th to hear Corinne Carey, New York State Campaign Director of Compassion and Choices, an organization working to protect and expand options at the end of life.  Compassion and Choices  works in state legislatures, Congress, courts, medical settings and communities to empower people with information and tools consistent with their values and priorities; to advance policies that allow people to make fully informed decisions about their healthcare; and to authorize and implement medical aid in dying to end unbearable suffering. Come hear about this organization and about the legislative initiatives under consideration in our state legislature.

Corrine previously worked with the New York Civil Liberties Union where she engaged in advocacy on a wide range of civil liberties issues concentrating on public health, medical privacy, drug law reform, and reproductive rights issues. Prior to her work with the NYCLU she was a researcher with the U.S. Program at Human Rights Watch. She has taught courses in law and urban problems; civil rights and civil liberties; and the politics of health, at New York University, Brooklyn College, and the City University of New York. Corrine is a member of the Board of Directors of the YMCA-Greater Capital Region and in her spare time enjoys gardening, cooking and her two cats, Sneak and Matey!

We meet in the dining room at 5:45pm for networking and socializing with juice or wine before a catered vegetarian dinner is served at 6:15pm. If you plan to arrive for the program only, plan on arriving before 8pm.  To make reservations for the dinner, e-mail Gabrielle Reals at ellegr3@gmail.com by Monday October 24 or by calling her by Tuesday October 25 at 382-5685 before 8pm. You may request a gluten free meal when you make your reservations.  You may also bring your own dinner if you prefer.  Cost of the entire evening is $15; program only is $3.  All women are welcome.
